Scientifically known as Hippophae rhamnoides, Hippophae is an edible berry which is packed full of nutrients such as omega-7 fatty acids and skin-beneficial minerals like Zinc, Copper, and Selenium. This berry is deemed a ‘superfood’ due to its exceptionally nutrient-dense properties providing health benefits and features an orange berry and narrow silvery-green leaves.
What are the main benefits of Hippophae?
Hippophae, commonly known as Sea Buckthorn, has a history rooted in traditional medicine and has been used for centuries in various cultures. The ancient Greeks reportedly used it for medicinal purposes. Over time, its applications have expanded. It works both topically and orally to provide powerful anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, nutritive, and wound- healing benefits. The plant is enriched with Vitamins A, C and E to support the immune system and promote healthy heart, digestive and eye health and weight management.
What can it do for my skin?
Hippophae oil, known as the “190 Vitamin Powerhouse,” offers numerous benefits for skin health. Rich in omega-7 fatty acids, it provides moisturizing properties for dry or dehydrated skin. With antioxidants like vitamins A, C, and E, it fights free radicals, reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Its potential wound-healing and anti-inflammatory properties make it useful for skin repair and soothing irritations. Additionally, the vitamin C content promotes collagen production, contributing to a brighter complexion, while its anti-inflammatory nature aids in acne management. The oil’s antioxidants also offer sun damage protection, complementing overall skin health with essential nutrients
Can I eat Hippophae?
Yes, Hippophae berries are edible, and they have been consumed for their nutritional benefits for centuries. The berries are rich in various vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and beneficial fatty acids. One of my favorite smoothies is Hippophae based; simply blend fresh Hippophae berries with forest fruit, honey and Greek yogurt and sprinkle crushed almonds on top! It’s delicious.
What top 3 important minerals are packed in Hippophae berries?
Hippophae berries are packed with Zinc, Copper, and Selenium, all essential minerals for skin regeneration. Zinc exhibits anti-inflammatory properties, supports healing, and regulates oil production, making it beneficial for acne-prone skin. Copper, an essential trace mineral, is crucial for collagen, elastin, and melanin formation, contributing to skin structure, elasticity, and pigmentation. Copper peptides derived from copper are often used in skincare for potential anti-aging benefits. Selenium, an antioxidant, protects skin from oxidative damage, preventing aging and reducing inflammation, while also maintaining skin cell health.
